(Feb 18): The Maine Office of Substance Abuse (OSA) recently announced that the results of two major surveys reveal a huge gap between reported teenage alcohol use in Maine, and Maine parents� perceptions of underage drinking in their own homes. While more than 98% of the Maine parents believe that their teen had not been drinking alcohol within the month prior to the survey, 41% of the Maine teens reported that they had consumed alcohol within the same period prior to the survey. Statistically speaking, 36% of Maine parents surveyed � more than 1/3 - may be wrong about the extent of alcohol used by their teens. In addition the survey indicated that more than two-thirds of parents may be overconfident in their ability to find out if their teens are drinking.
